Need a ride? The SJA55+ Rides Program helps older adults remain independent by providing affordable transportation to essential appointments and everyday activities.
Volunteer drivers use their personal vehicles to pick participants up at an arranged time and take them safely to their destination.
Who Can Use the Program?
The SJA55+ Rides Program is available to individuals who:
Are 55 years of age or older
Live independently in their own home, apartment, or condominium
Can walk independently (canes and walkers are welcome)
Have completed the program registration process
Are able to request rides on their own behalf
Please note: Ride availability depends on volunteer driver availability.
What Can the Service Be Used For?
Transportation is available for a variety of essential and community activities, including:
Medical appointments (priority)
Banking
Grocery shopping
Hairdresser or barber appointments
Recreational and social activities
Visiting family or friends
Attending programs and events at the St. James–Assiniboia 55+ Centre
When Are Rides Available?
The program operates:
Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Ride requests are subject to volunteer driver availability.
How to Book a Ride
To help us coordinate volunteers, please note:
Ride requests must be made at least five business days in advance.
Requests can be made by phone (please leave a message if necessary) or email.
If you need to cancel a ride, please contact the office as soon as possible.
Drivers do not make confirmation calls from home.
How to Register
Before using the service, you'll need to complete a registration form.
